The Baby Project (2) - Reversible Baby Blanket

As-salam.

Hi, frens. How's Ramadhan so far? Mine is good.  I thought I'd be tired and restless now that I'm in my 3rd trimester. Alhamdulillah I can get through the day quite well. 

I purposely made this blanket for the arrival of baby #2 in the hospital. I want to have more pictures of my newborn compared to Raisya. I want to have a picture of my baby snuggled in the softness of Momma's made blanket. Looking back,I wish I would have taken more pictures of Raisya when she was a little baby. I feel sad by just flipping through Raisya's picture folder in my computer.  At that time, I only have old Samsung  phone and inexpensive Olympus point and shoot camera. Sadly we lent the camera to my brother-in-law.  I only left with my camera phone during my confinement. You know that taking pictures from old 4MP or maybe 6MP camera phone wasn't exciting. That's what I felt.

For the reversible blanket, I just cut 30 inch x 30 inch square of flannel and cotton and stitched them together. When you have thousands of label like mine, you just stitched  the label on both sides of the fabric. LOL.

Whaley Peasant Top and Short

I heart weekends.  Weekends are the only time I can have a sewing marathon, moving back and forth to the cutting table and sewing machine while sitting on my swivel chair and spending long hours at my sewing machine. I heart it.

I've been meaning to sew this Whaley Peasant Top & Short since last weekends. I painstakingly drew out the pattern and cut the fabrics according to the pattern pieces carefully.  It went smoothly in the beginning.  But by the time I sew the pattern pieces together,everything went wrong. I was thinking real hard how to put the pattern pieces together. Seam ripper became my best friend and I gave up.

I tried not to give up this weekends. After clearing all the junks on my cutting table, I plan carefully again on how to assemble the pattern pieces. And this time, it works. 

The top and short fit Raisya nicely. "Ngam-ngam, that's we normally say. I prefer it to be bigger actually. I am thinking of making a free pattern for this outfit, so anybody interested can sew along with me. What say you? Anyone interested?

The Baby Project (1) - Top Knot Hat

I'm about 28 weeks pregnant with my second baby which means I'm in my 3rd trimester. I have another 12 weeks if I make it to the full term. 


I haven't done anything yet for baby #2. Sniff, sniff. Not that I'm not excited, but the to-do list and shopping list are significantly shorter for baby #2. If you understand what I mean. =)

I did purchased a few onesies on sale at Mothercare and also cloth diapers for baby #2. Those were the only things I bought so far.  I am slowly increasing my CD stash since I was thinking of cloth diapering baby #2.  CD? Interesting, no? I do hope I can share with you my cloth diaper stories once I started the journey soon.


Back to the post title - The Baby Project.  The Baby Project is to document every single things I make for baby #2. I want to stress the word "make" here my friends. I will document things I make only, not buy, not purchase. I have a not-so-long to-do lists for The Baby Project which I hope I can finish before the baby arrives. So bear with me.

I begin with a little baby steps.I'm making top knot hat just now. Tutorial can be found HERE. I have no real model to justify the cute hat that I'm making. Teddy bear is only I have. 

Here I used knit fabric from RM10 shirt I found at KL Sentral. Ignore the wobbly zigzag stitching. I promise I'll do better for the next hat. But its still cute isn't it? Considering I can make 2 hats out of RM10 shirt.  It is a plus point for me since I still have extra remnant that can be turn into anything cute other than hat. For plain white top knot like this, I bet it priced at RM29.90 at Mothercare.

Romper Dress - the first attempt

My first attempt at making my own romper pattern.  I spent a good half day to figure out the pattern and sizing. Since the request to make this romper was for 6-9 months old baby, I used Raisya's old clothes as reference.

When you left sewing for almost half a year, it's quiet challenging to start all over again.  I feel lost. I even had to cut the pattern on a remnant fabric and sewed the pattern pieces together to make sure it's the right sizing I was looking for (which is based on my assumption only). Alhamdulillah, it turned out ok. I proceeded with the real fabric and it turned out to be like this.

Not bad, eh? But I still wasn't sure with the fit until I put the romper on my almost 1 yr old baby cousin. It fit her well. What a relief! 1 thing need to change is the snap button. I used snap fasteners kit from Daiso.  My fingers hurt, I tell ya! If only I had a snap press....

T-Shirt Ruffle Dress

T-shirt ruffle dress for my friend's, Tyne only daughter. Tyne didn't ask for a specific dress to be made for her daughter,Yaya.  It just that I felt guilty to Tyne as she had sent me 4 lovely fabrics to be made into a jumpsuit before she even had  Yaya. And that was nearly half a year ago. My oh my. Sorry, Tyne! Surely, there's a reason for that =).

The bodice was made using RM5 XL t-shirt that I bought at Carrefour, Kota Damansara when I was still staying there. If anyone of you knows where to buy cheap shirt fabric, do let me know ya!

The ruffle skirt was made using pre-ruffles knit fabric I bought at Kamdar. I heart Kamdar for a cheap, rare fabric that couldn't be found anywhere else. 

My sweet label must be visible on the outside. 

The sizing might be a little bit big for Yaya. I underestimate the stretchiness of shirt fabric as  I attached the bodice and the gathered bottom. But Tyne did say that her daughter is a bit chunky compared to her two brothers. I think Yaya could fit into this dress in no time.

 So what do I do with balance of ruffles knit fabric?  Ehmm.. let me reserve that one later eh?

Baking Class (early Feb '12) - already knew I was pregnant. My morning sickness didn't show up yet at this point of time.

Easy Skirt

Hi, blog! I miss you. I really miss you. And I miss sewing too. Sorry for the long hiatus from blogging, my friends. I'm still here. Don't you worry.

I've not been blogging because I've not been sewing. See my friends. It's correlated. The big reason behind this is because...... I'M PREGNANT with baby #2!  I had a rough first trimester. It even dragged until the beginning of second trimester,  just like my first pregnancy.

Since we have so much catching up to do, let's not go into details about my first trimester experience. Let me show you the first ever sewing I made after the long break. It's something super easy peasy!. I called it Easy Skirt.

It's a great project to start with for a beginner. Here I used Moda Fabric - Twirl Spinning Pink by Me and My Sister Designs. Just pair the skirt with cute shirt/top and it makes great everyday clothes. This girl sure loves her skirt as you can plainly see. I think I should make hundreds. =)
