Ikea Sewing Shop Showroom

Really liking this sewing space (sans sewing machine) in Ikea. I think this is the first time Ikea featured such space in their showing room.

Phew, it's finally done and posted!

Hello readers!

I want to share with you my not so recent project of home improvement.

I have had this TV cabinet from Ikea since 2006.  It served it purpose well until we finally moved to our own house early April this year. It's still sturdy  enough but the color is soooo yesterday I felt like buying a new one immediately. But the thought of forking out a thousand ringgit for a decent TV cabinet does not appeal to me.

Since I'm an avid reader of home decorating blog, the idea of painting an old furniture and gives it a new life really inspire me. You can check out a lot of cool blogs that offer a really great tutorial on how to paint an old furniture.

First let me show you my TV cabinet in its original state.
Sad =(

After I give him 2 coats of primer and spray paint, it turned out to this.
Happy =)

Yes, I'm watching Glee. You caught me.  Haha.  So, what do you think? Can I say from blah to ahh? At least aahh to me because its really complement my living room color scheme for now. The height also has been increased for a better view with the use of leg instead of wheel.

Anyone like to know the details on the cost and how I did it? If yes, I'm glad to share!

Ghost Chair Craziness

Everyone that is close to me knows that I'm into decorating mood lately.  Call me crazy but I got what I wanted. A ghost chair! And yes, some of you may say what the heck is ghost chair. Let me show you! It looks like this.

It's actually an imitation of Louis Ghost Chair by designer Philippe Starck .  I just went crazy when I first saw it at Viva Home. I never thought this chair is really available here. Malaysia Boleh!

This chair will serve its purpose at my so-called office nooks. Just like these.

Except for the natural light they enjoyed. Whatever it is, I'm still happy. Now, it's the perfect time for finding a perfect match for Mr. Ghost - a table.

Little project for a 'short' weekend

As-salam and weekend greetings all.  Just to let you know that we are finally moved in to our new house. Alhamdulillah.  We have now been in our new home for 2 weeks and still arranging things.

I always in stress mode thinking that everything was supposed to come together all at once. But after being a follower to this great blog, I agree with them that this whole process of house decorating is a process that will change and evolve over time. After all this is our own house, so we have to take it easy.

By the way, I want to show what I brought home today. It's awesome! It's really turned out as what I imagined.

In case you are wondering what is this, it's a wall deco that I plan to hang above the sofa. I bought the white stencil-like plastic thing at SSF, Jalan TAR. It's come in set of 3.  As usual, being creative myself (?) I bought along a velvet like fabric at Kamdar (at home furnishing section) as its background and got it framed at a frame shop near my house. I keep the other one until we'd be able to buy a new sofa which I expect it to be much longer than the existing one.

So for now two is enough!

Note: I still haven't hang the curtain around the house.  The power drill that I borrowed is not powerful enough to get through the wall ( at the beam).  Anyone knows who can get the job done here in Cheras particularly around Bandar Sri Permaisuri, please? I'm stress!

Poster vs Framed Fabric

Hi, peeps.  I have a lot of things and inspiration to share with you but without pictures it would be no fun, right?.  I wish I had a new camera so that I could take better pictures to post in this blog.  The old Sony Cybershot is resting in our car dashboard for months. I feel so lazy to charge it and now I don't know where I put the charger since I have packed some of our stuff, ready to move.

Updates on our new house:

1.  Painting (not all but mostly done)
2.  Wiring*
3.  Hanging curtain rods (by next weekend)
4.  Extend kitchen wall*
5.  Plaster ceiling*

* To be done by this week after we pay the deposit.

I painted my sewing room pink. I really can't tell whether it's the perfect pink that I've been looking for.  But for now, I just have to say yes. I really hates colour searching.

Since I've painted the wall pink, the colour that I think goes well with the decor for now are white, green and yellow.

I'm so in love with this print via MadeByGirl.  I am thinking to put it above my sewing table. But it's not in the price range that I can afford for now. Not after currency conversion and shipping. *sigh*

I think I have to copy this idea instead. Display my fabric collection in frame. Brilliant idea for cheap skate like me, eh?

What? Discontinued?

So we went to Ikea this morning and when we browsed the bedroom section I approached the yellow uniform guy and said, 'Dik, katil Ikea Tromsnes tu takde ke? And he said 'Katil tu dah discontinued kak'.  What? I couldn't believe it. I just saw it a few months back with my dearest hub. Serious, in December last  year I think. *crying*

I was dreaming that this is the most perfect bed for my soon to be sewing room + play room.

Don't cha think? Ikea called it day bed. It can be used as bed as well as seating.

Even the price is a little bit high for a single bed frame, I couldn't care less. I want it, I want it, I want it! How my dream has been smashed by Ikea. My fave place for window shopping therapy. How could you Ikea!

Lucky me, I have Plan B. Since the dimension of the sewing room + play room is only 8ftx12ft (my rough estimation), I figured out another option.

The cheapest Ikea sofabed.  You might be wondering why I  need this in my sewing + play room.   Me and my hubs have a big family and we we're both the eldest.  Besides having guest room, extra bed is very much needed when they come for a sleepover.

This sofa bed can come to the rescue. Plus, this will be Raisya's couch for watching her favorite show (Mickey Mouse, Barney.......) while Mama and Daddy can watch TV peacefully in a living room. Smart solution, right?
And this sofa also can give more polished look to the room. Just add some throw pillows and wallah, "sweetheart studio".

Can't wait to start. Wish me luck, peeps!

Multi Purpose Case

What do you want to put in the case? To me, I have no idea yet.  I'm very tempted to use the fabric even i have no specific idea to go with the fabric yet. I ended up making this case. Case like this is very easy to make.  If you're  an experienced sewers, you can make many of it within a short period of time.

For beginner sewers, please try this tute.

I think i want to put my make-up or my zippers, or my  bias tape or small meds like vicks, minyak yuyi, calamine cream etc. See. I can't decide. Or should i make more of it. Anyone want one?

Vintage Treasure

yep! it is my sweet vintage treasure. i got it from my mom. It is solely and officially mine when i moved to Mentakab in 2005.  My first job was in Mentakab and i had to rent a house alone. So this sweet treasure has been my friend and keep me occupied at night. There was no tv until i can afford to buy one after 3 months of working. very sad, huh?

I sent her to the 'doctor' in 2007 and its working wonderfully to me until now.  Even when my new baby cannot serve me (to sew with elastic thread), this sweet treasure never failed to serve me and that's why i love it. i will keep you forever, buddy!
